Five Falcons score in double digits in Saint Augustine's 76-65 win over Shaw

RALEIGH, NC --Five Falcons scored in double digits and Saint Augustine's defeated the Shaw Bears 76-65 at home Tuesday.

The Falcons (14-11, 8-9) had five players score in double figures, led by Lauren Banks, who had 15 points and four steals. Joscelyn Meyers added 13 points and two steals and Shikira Perry helped out with 12 points.

Taniyah Greene pulled down four offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Saint Augustine's, grabbing 17 boards and turning them into 15 second chance points.

The Saint Augustine's defense caused its share of mistakes in Tuesday's game, forcing 27 Shaw turnovers while committing 12. Those takeaways turned into 32 points on the offensive end of the floor. Banks' four steals led the way individually for the Falcons.

How It Happened

Saint Augustine's struggled out of the gate, falling behind 21-15 at the end of the first quarter.

Saint Augustine's then cut the Bears lead to 27-24 before going on an 8-0 run, highlighted by a three from Perry, to take a 32-27 lead. The Falcons proceeded to tack on one point to that lead and enjoyed a 34-28 advantage heading into halftime. Saint Augustine's forced eight Shaw turnovers in the period and turned them into eight points.

Saint Augustine's continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 10-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Perry, to expand its lead further to 52-38 with 2:11 to go in the third. The Falcons held onto that lead for the rest of the frame and entered the fourth quarter with a 56-42 edge. Saint Augustine's played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 22 points in the paint.

Saint Augustine's kept its lead intact before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Banks' jumper, to grow the lead to 64-44 with 7:23 to go in the contest. The Bears narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Falcons still cruised the rest of the way for the 76-65 win. Saint Augustine's took advantage of five Shaw turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of those takeaways.
