Saint Augustine's gets 20 bench points in 64-52 win over Lincoln (PA)

BALTIMORE, MD --The Saint Augustine's women's basketball team got a 20-point showing from the bench on the way to a 64-52 win over the Lincoln (PA) Lions at CFG Bank Arena Tuesday.

The Falcons (15-12) had four players score in double figures, led by Taniyah Greene, who had 19 points and six rebounds. Janiya Reed tacked on 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals off of the bench and Lauren Banks helped out with a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Ashlyn Mesidor pulled down four offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Saint Augustine's, grabbing 17 boards and turning them into 18 second chance points.

The Saint Augustine's defense held Lincoln (PA) shooters to only 26.2 percent from the field, including 25 percent from three-point range. The Falcons also kept Ciani Montgomery to 2-of-12 shooting and six points in the game.

How It Happened

After playing to a 2-2 tie early in the game, Saint Augustine's went on a 10-0 run with 7:45 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Reed, to take a 12-2 lead, a score that would hold for the rest of the period. Saint Augustine's did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 12 points close to the basket.

Saint Augustine's kept its first quarter lead intact before going on an 8-0 run starting at the 4:43 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Greene, to increase its lead to 23-10. The Falcons proceeded to tack on two points to that lead and enjoyed a 30-15 advantage heading into halftime. Saint Augustine's dominated in the paint, scoring 14 of its 18 points close to the basket.

After intermission, Saint Augustine's held on to its advantage and owned a 42-27 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Saint Augustine's played well near the basket, scoring six of its 12 points in the paint.

Saint Augustine's kept its lead intact before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Reed's layup, to grow the lead to 64-49 with 49 seconds to go in the contest. The Lions narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Falcons still cruised the rest of the way for the 64-52 win. Saint Augustine's took advantage of seven Lincoln (PA) turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of those takeaways.
