RALEIGH, N.C. - One day after winning the CIAA Southern Division title, Saint Augustine's College took care of Morris College 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-14) Tuesday in a non-conference volleyball match at Emery Gymnasium.
The win was the fourth straight for the Lady Falcons (18-7 overall), who defeated Fayetteville State in five sets Monday for their first division crown since 2003 and the first under four-year head coach Covance Mortimer. While the Lady Falcons had to sweat it out against Fayetteville State, they had a much easier time with Morris (6-9).
The Lady Falcons tallied 43 kills for a .243 attack percentage and added 11 service aces. Kathryn Tokarski (Jr./Saskatchewan, Canada) led the team in kills (11) and digs (12) while Stephony Newkirk (Sr./Greenville, N.C.) added eight kills and Brittany Hicks (Soph./Louisburg, N.C.) had seven kills.
Shakira Carter (Sr./St. Michael, Barbados) chipped in six kills, a team-high three service aces and eight digs for the Lady Falcons. Roxanne Smith (Jr./St. Catherine, Jamaica) led the team in assists with 39 while Nicolette Campbell (Jr./Nassau, Bahamas) and Keisha Parris (Jr./St. Catherine, Jamaica) contributed nine and eight digs, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Lady Hornets had a .072 attack percentage while committing 11 serving return errors and four ball handling errors. The one bright spot was the play of Ebony Murchinson, who had a game-high 13 kills in addition to seven digs.
The Lady Falcons will play in the Mount Olive Classic this weekend in Mount Olive, N.C. They face host Mount Olive College Friday at 7 p.m.
