RALEIGH, N.C. – Saint Augustine's College fell behind early and ended up losing in four sets to Fayetteville State University Monday (Oct. 24) in a CIAA volleyball encounter at Emery Gym.
The loss left the Lady Falcons (9-16 overall, 9-5 CIAA) at 4-4 in the Southern Division with two divisional matches left. A divisional win over Livingstone Wednesday (Oct. 26) would qualify the Lady Falcons for the CIAA Tournament, which will be held Nov. 4-6 in Hampton, Va. Eight teams – the top four in both the Northern and Southern Division – advance to the conference tourney.
Kathryn Tokarski (Sr./Saskatchewan, Canada) led the way with 11 kills and 17 digs for the Lady Falcons, who climbed back in the match after losing 25-21 and 25-17 the first two games. They played their best in the third set, leading big most of the way en route to winning 25-15. Their inspired play in the third set gave hope that a comeback was possible, but the Lady Broncos (16-10 overall, 11-3 CIAA) sealed the match with a 25-20 victory in the fourth set.
Keisha Parris (Sr./St. Catherine, Jamaica) and
Victoria Davis (Soph./San Diego, Calif.) both added nine kills, and
