RALEIGH, N.C. – Saint Augustine's College locked down the Southern Division No. 3 seed heading into the CIAA Volleyball Tournament with a 3-1 victory over Livingstone College Wednesday (Oct. 26) at Emery Gym.
The Lady Falcons (10-16 overall, 10-5 CIAA) upped their division mark to 5-4 with one divisional match left Friday at Shaw. The Lady Blue Bears (12-13 overall, 8-8 CIAA) saw their division record fall to 4-5. The Lady Falcons would win the tiebreaker in case there is a tie by virtue of sweeping the season series.
The Lady Falcons won 25-10, 21-25, 25-12, 27-25 by outhitting the Lady Blue Bears and playing better defense. They held a 55-20 edge in kills and an 87-63 advantage in digs.
The dynamic duo of
Keisha Parris (St. Catherine, Jamaica) and Kathryn Tokarski (Saskatchewan, Canada) scored the bulk of the Lady Falcon kills. Parris finished with 21 kills and Tokarski added 14 kills while
Victoria Davis (Soph./San Diego, Calif.) and
Brittany Hicks (Jr./Louisburg, N.C.) both added eight kills.
Tokarski also had a team-high 22 digs and
Roxanne Smith (Sr./St. Catherine, Jamaica) tallied 48 assists. Davis added 18 digs and Parris had five blocks for the Lady Falcons. Iman Isom compiled a match-high 24 digs and Sophie Lepzem had seven solo blocks and four blocks for the Lady Blue Bears.
The match was one point away from heading to a fifth set. Trailing 25-24, the Lady Falcons scored three consecutive points for the win. Hicks and Parris each picked up a kill and the Lady Blue Bears committed a block error to end the match.
The Lady Falcons host their second match in a row and third in four days Thursday (Oct. 27). North Greenville comes to town for a non-conference match at 7 p.m.
The CIAA Tournament will be held in Hampton, Va., from Nov. 4-6.
