Lady Falcons Blank Shaw 3-0 For Third Consecutive Win

RALEIGH, N.C.- Playing on weary legs, Saint Augustine's College mustered up enough energy to beat Shaw 3-0 Friday (Oct. 28) in a CIAA crosstown volleyball match at Spaulding Gym.

The Lady Falcons faced a daunting schedule this week with four matches in five days. They pulled off three consecutive wins, including the victory over Shaw, after losing to Fayetteville State on Monday.

The Lady Falcons (12-16 overall) swept the two-match season series against the Lady Bears. The victory capped the CIAA portion of the schedule with the Lady Falcons finishing 6-4 in the Southern Division. They will enter the CIAA Tournament on Nov. 4-6 as the division's No. 3 seed.

The Lady Falcons made quick work of the Lady Bears (4-27 overall) behind the power hitting of Kathryn Tokarski (Sr./Saskatchewan,  Canada). She led both teams with 19 kills and 12 assists as the Lady Falcons won 25-16, 26-24, 25-18. Brittany Hicks (Jr./Louisburg, N.C.) added nine kills and Roxanne Smith (Sr./St. Catherine, Jamaica) added 27 assists. The Lady Falcons held a big edge in service aces (14-5) with Tokarski getting five. 

For the Lady Bears, Shaye Walton had 12 kills and nine digs while Crystal Gordon added nine kills. Cortnee Kelly had 19 assists for the Lady Bears, 2-8 in the Southern Division.

Monday (Oct. 31) will be Senior Night for the Lady Falcons, who end the regular season in the home finale against Claflin at 6 p.m.. This will be the last regular season match for seniors Tokarski, Smith and Keisha Parris (Sr./St. Catherine, Jamaica).
