DURHAM, N.C. – Turnovers proved too costly for Saint Augustine's College against crosstown rival Shaw University on Saturday (Nov. 5) at Durham County Stadium.

Brian Richards (R-Soph./Waldorf, Md.) snagged nine catches for 91 yards and two touchdowns, but the Falcons threw seven interceptions in a 20-16 loss. The contest was the last regular-season game for both teams.
The loss snapped a two-game win streak for the Falcons, who ended the season 4-6 overall and 3-4 in the CIAA. The Bears finished 3-7 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
The Bears scored 17 points off interceptions including a 15-yard touchdown pass from Homer Causey to Daniel Lee in the third quarter for the go-ahead score, which gave the Bears a 20-14 lead.
The Falcons closed the gap to 20-16 with 6:28 in the fourth quarter after the Bears were flagged for intentional grounding in their end zone. The penalty gave the Falcons a safety.
The Falcons had two more possessions to take the lead but threw an interception and gave up the ball on downs in their territory. The Bears ran out the clock to seal the win.
The Falcons lost despite outgaining the Bears 323-276 in offensive yards. The seven interceptions were the difference.

Teddy Bacote (Soph./Hampton, Va.) threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns but was picked off five times. The Bears' Quinshaw Odom and Causey passed for 206 yards but were a combined 13-for-33 and one interception.
The turnovers offset a solid performance by the Falcons' defense, who recorded five sacks. Linebacker
Chaz Robinson (Soph./Hampton, Va.) led both teams with a game-high 10 tackles and defensive end Joe Reed (Jr./Anderson, S.C.) had 2.5 sacks and nine tackles. For Shaw, Marcus Skeen and Keith Lomon finished with seven tackles apiece.
Both teams were penalized heavily. The Falcons were flagged 16 times and the Bears were penalized 12 times.
The contest was different from last season when the Southern Division title and CIAA Championship berth were at stake. Only bragging rights were on the line, but both teams competed hard against each other.
The Bears scored first on a 28-yard field goal. They stretched the lead to 10-0 in the first quarter on a 35-yard touchdown pass after a Falcons' interception.
Richards put the Falcons on the scoreboard in the first quarter with a six-yard touchdown catch from Bacote. It sliced the Bears' lead to 10-7. The Bears added a 21-yard field goal following another interception by the Falcons.
The Falcons gained the lead 14-13 right before halftime on Richards' second touchdown catch of the day – a four-yard pass from Bacote.
Smith, who became the Falcons' career receptions leader this season, ended his college career with 137 catches.
