Lady Falcons In CIAA Finals For Second Straight Year

HAMPTON, Va. – Keisha Parris (Sr./St. Catherine, Jamaica) recorded 13 kills as Saint Augustine's College surprised Winston-Salem State 3-0 Saturday (Nov. 5) to reach the CIAA Volleyball Finals for the second consecutive season at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.
 
The Lady Falcons (16-17 overall) will tangle with two-time defending champ Chowan in the championship match Sunday (Nov. 6). Chowan knocked out Fayetteville State 3-1 in the other semifinal match Saturday. 
 
The title match is a repeat of last year's matchup. In that match, Chowan defeated the Lady Falcons 3-2 for its second crown in a row.
 
The Lady Falcons, seeded third in the Southern Division, advanced to the finals by winning convincingly over Winston-Salem State 25-17, 25-16, 25-17. The Lady Rams won both regular-season matches by 3-0 and 3-2 scores. Brittany Hicks (Jr./Louisburg, N.C.) added nine kills and Kathryn Tokarski (Sr./Saskatchewan, Canada) chipped in eight kills for the Lady Falcons while Roxanne Smith (Sr./St. Catherine, Jamaica) dished out 27 assists.
 
The Lady Rams, (19-11 overall), seeded second in the Southern Division, were coming off a big 3-2 win over Chowan in pool play Friday. They were unbeaten in pool play before running into a buzzsaw Saturday against the Lady Falcons, who have won seven of their last eight matches.
 
The Lady Falcons held a whopping advantage in attack percentage (.289-.010) against the Lady Rams, who committed 25 errors. The Lady Falcons also had more digs (38-32) and blocks (11-6). Parris and Victoria Davis (Soph./San Diego, Calif.) tied for the most blocks with three each.
