TURLOCK, Calif. – Kelly Shaw (Soph./Winona, Minn.) of Saint Augustine's College ran the second-fastest 400-meter time during preliminaries Thursday to qualify for the women's finals on the opening day of the 2011 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Cal State Stanislaus.
Her time of 54.65 seconds was good enough to win the second heat. Teammate Nicketa Bernard (Soph./Westmoreland, Jamaica) also qualified for the 400 finals with a time of 55.77 seconds. Earlier in the day, both Shaw and Bernard helped the Lady Falcons qualify for the 4x100 meter relay finals with a time of 46.30 seconds in Thursday's preliminaries.
In the men's events, Ramon Gittens (Sr./St. Thomas, Barbados) of the Falcons qualified for the 100-meter finals with the third-fastest time (10.26 seconds) in preliminaries. The duo of Josh Edmonds (Fr./Jacksonville, Fla.) and Kelly Fisher (Jr./Tinton Falls, N.J.) both qualified for the 200-meter finals with times of 47.34 seconds and 47.68 seconds, respectively. Edmonds won Heat 3 in the preliminaries.
