DURHAM, N.C. (May 6) – Saint Augustine's University (SAU) took a major step towards its return to CIAA dominance in men's outdoor track and field on Saturday.
The Falcons earned 111 points to place second at the CIAA Men's and Women's Outdoor Championships held at Durham County Stadium. Meanwhile, the Lady Falcons placed third in the women's division.
The second place finish returned the Falcons back to the podium for the first time since 2019 under the leadership of first-year men's head track & field coach Bershawn "Batman" Jackson. On Saturday, athletes
Sean Kalawan (Jr./Westmoreland, Jamaica) and
Malaysia Johnson (Fr./Fort Lauderdale, FL) also received their CIAA Track Athlete of the Year Awards. The award is the third in the Kalawan household, where Sean's sister, Shannon Kalawan was a two-time recipient from 2018-2019.
SAU finished first in two of 13 events. Kalawan won the 400 hurdles and
Kadain Roper (Jr./Portland, Jamaica) won the Javelin. The full results are on tfrrs.org and saintaugfalcons.com.
