HAMPTON, Va. - Saint Augustine's College relied on its two standout players to stretch its volleyball win streak to four.
Seniors
Kathryn Tokarski (Saskatchewan, Canada) and
Keisha Parris (St. Catherine, Jamaica) led the way for the Lady Falcons in victories over Virginia Union University and Bowie State University Saturday (Sept. 17) at the CIAA Volleyball Round-Up held inside the Boo Williams Sportsplex. The Lady Falcons beat VUU 21-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-22 and BSU 25-17, 25-13, 25-9.
The duo finished with 56 of the Lady Falcons' 85 combined kills in both victories. Against Virginia Union, Tokarski sparked the team with 17 kills and Parris added 14 kills and a team-high 14 digs. Junior
Abeje Carrington (St. George, Barbados) followed with seven kills and senior
Brittany Hicks (Louisburg, N.C.) contributed six kills. Senior
Roxanne Smith (St. Catherine, Jamaica) played a solid match with 43 assists and six service aces followed by Parris with four aces.
Tokarski and Parris, both All-CIAA performers a year ago, continued their strong play in the second match against Bowie State. Parris paced the Lady Falcons with 13 kills with Tokarski right behind her with 12 kills.
Sophomore
Victoria Davis (San Diego, Calif.) chipped in six kills, Smith totaled 30 assists and Hicks had 10 digs. Carrington picked up five aces for the Lady Falcons, who had 14 as a team. The Lady Falcons have 80 aces this season with 57 of them coming in the Round-Up.
After an 0-6 start, the Lady Falcons (4-6 overall) are back on track. They are 4-0 in conference play with one day left in the Round-Up. The Lady Falcons have big matches on Sunday (Sept. 18) against last year's CIAA Tournament semifinalist Elizabeth City State and two-time defending league champ Chowan.
The match against ECSU begins at 10 a.m. followed by Chowan at noon. The Chowan-St. Aug meeting is a rematch of last year's CIAA Championship contest.
