RALEIGH, N.C. - Kathryn Tokarski (Saskatchewan, Canada) was too much for Johnson C. Smith University on Wednesday (Sept. 21).
The senior outside hitter paced the Lady Falcons with 14 kills, 11 digs and two service aces in a 3-0 CIAA volleyball victory at Emery Gymnasium. The match was the home opener for the Lady Falcons, who upped their record to 6-1 in the CIAA and 1-0 in the Southern Division. The final scores were 25-16, 25-12, 25-11.
The hard-hitting Tokarski finished the match with a .346 hitting percentage. Two of her kills bounced off an opposing player who couldn't react to the speed of her attacking shot.
Tokarski helped the Lady Falcons gain a whopping 43-8 kill advantage over the Lady Golden Bulls (4-10 overall, 2-6 CIAA, 0-2 Southern). Overall, the Lady Falcons had a .333 hitting percentage.
Senior rightside hitter Keisha Parris (St. Catherine, Jamaica), the CIAA player of the week, added 10 kills and senior setter Roxanne Smith (St. Catherine, Jamaica) had 37 assists. Junior middle blocker Brittany Hicks (Louisburg, N.C.) contributed six kills and two solo blocks while sophomore middle blocker Victoria Davis (San Diego, Calif.) had five kills.
The Lady Falcons (6-7 overall) travel to Winston-Salem State Friday (Sept. 23) for a CIAA match in Winston-Salem, N.C. The match begins at 6 p.m.
