Raleigh, N.C. - The Saint Augustine's University women's volleyball team snapped a nine-match losing skid on Thursday with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-17 win over the Johnson C. Smith University Lady Golden Bulls in Emery Gymnasium.
SAU opened the first set narrowly edging the Lady Golden Bulls 25-21 and followed it up with a much more convincing win in the second and third sets by consecutive scores of 25-17, 25-17. With the win, the Lady Falcons improved to 5-15 overall, 5-7 in conference play, ending their longest losing streak of the season.
The Lady Falcons broke out of an offensive slump, as four players recorded over eight kills each.
Jamie Goff (Jr./Rubonia, Fla.) led the way with 10 kills followed by
Victoria Davis' (Jr./San Diego, Calif.) nine kills. Senior
Brittany Hicks and freshman
Na'Chanelle Brown (Fr./Columbia, S.C.) each had eight kills. Goff also added eight digs. Julieesa Thomas (St. Croix, US Virgin Islands) served up 30 assists, as SAU had double-digit kills in every set.
For the Lady Golden Bulls (3-13, 3-9 CIAA), Sabrina Johnson led her team with eight kills and seven digs. Imeshia Jones contributed four kills and eight digs in the loss.
Next up for the Lady Falcons will be the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (5-16, 5-7 CIAA) on Monday, Oct.15, 2012. The match is designated as Dig Pink night. All fans are asked to wear pink in support of this initiative to raise awareness for breast cancer. The match will begin at 6 p.m. at Emery Gymnasium.
