Jamie Goff (Jr./Rubonia, Fla.) tallied 19 kills and 14 digs and
Brittany Hicks (Sr./Louisburg, N.C.) added 13 kills for Saint Augustine's University in a 3-2 CIAA volleyball loss to Livingstone College at Emery Gymnasium on Wednesday, October 3, 2012. The match was the home opener for the Lady Falcons, who lost 18-25, 26-24, 25-15, 19-25, 13-15.
Na'Chanelle Brown (Fr./Columbia, S.C.) added 10 kills and Julieesa Thomas (Fr./St. Croix, US VI) finished with 43 assists for the Lady Falcons, who led 2-1 after three sets.
Chelsea Farrior (So./Tampa, Fla.) had a match-high 22 digs.
Phylicia Egbuna totaled 19 kills and 19 digs while Lareecia Swiney and Ebony Moore both chipped in 10 kills for the Lady Blue Bears, who rallied to win the last two sets for the victory. LaPria Saunders had 27 assists and Iman Isom contributed 17 digs.
The Lady Falcons had a better hitting percentage (.111 to .074), but committed more attack errors (35 to 28). They also had more service errors (11 to 10), return errors (9 to 8) and blocking errors (5 to 4) which made a difference in a tight match.
The Lady Falcons appeared in control after winning the third set easily, but the Lady Blue Bears rebounded to win the fourth set. In the deciding set, the Lady Blue Bears built a 14-10 lead, but the Lady Falcons staged a late rally to make things interesting. The Lady Falcons scored three consecutive points capped by Goff's kill on a Thomas assist to pull within one at 14-13. The Lady Blue Bears pulled out the win on a kill by Swiney from Moore.
The Lady Falcons fell to 4-14 overall, 4-5 in the CIAA and 1-3 in the Southern Division. The Lady Blue Bears are 14-4, 5-4 and 3-1 in the division. The Lady Falcons are back in action Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at Shaw University. The match starts at 6 p.m. in Spaulding Gymnasium.
