HAMPTON, Va. – The Saint Augustine's University women's volleyball season came to an end on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at the CIAA Tournament.
The Lady Falcons failed to advance to the semifinal round after going 0-3 in pool play at the Boo Williams Sportsplex. They lost to Chowan 3-0, Livingstone 3-1 and Elizabeth City State 3-0 to finish 6-24 overall.
The Lady Falcons, the No. 4 Southern Division seed, opened the tournament against Northern Division Chowan in a rematch of the last two CIAA title contests.
Na'Chanelle Brown (Fr./Columbia, S.C.) led the Lady Falcons with eight kills but Chowan won handily 25-14, 25-10, 25-12.
Brittany Hicks (Sr./Louisburg, N.C.) added six kills and nine digs while Julieesa Thomas finished with 18 assists.
Their second match against Livingstone, the No. 2 Southern Division seed, was closer. The Lady Blue Bears barely eked out a 28-26 win in the first set, but the Lady Falcons came back to win the second set 25-15. The Lady Blue Bears swept the last two sets 25-12 and 25-15 to gain the victory. Brown again led the Lady Falcons with 17 kills and Hicks added 12 kills, 11 digs and two blocking assists. Thomas had 24 assists and eight digs.
Brown also paced the Lady Falcons with 11 kills in a 25-23, 25-21, 25-19 loss to ECSU, the No. 3 Northern Division seed. Hicks had seven kills,
Chelsea Farrior (So./Tampa, Fla.) collected 13 digs and Thomas amassed 21 assists and 10 digs.
