St. Aug To Host Volleyball Tri-Match Friday, Oct. 18

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Saint Augustine's University Volleyball Tri-Match will be held at Emery Gymnasium on Friday, October 18, 2013. Admission is free.

Saint Augustine's University takes on Chowan University in the opening match at 3 p.m. In the second match, Chowan faces Barton College at 5 p.m. St. Aug meets Barton in the nightcap at 7 p.m.

St. Aug is led by middle blocker Skyla Isidore (Jr./Morne Castries, St. Lucia), who ranks fourth in the CIAA in kills (150) and hitting percentage (.265), and tied for third in kills per set (2.83). Middle blocker Victoria Davis (Sr./San Diego, Calif.) is second on the team in kills (132) and kills per set (2.59). Libero Chelsea Farrior (Jr./Tampa, Fla.) leads the Lady Falcons in digs (102) and setter Julieesa Thomas (Soph./St. Croix, US Virgin Islands) ranks third in the CIAA in assists per set (5.64).

The Lady Falcons are 7-8 overall including 7-5 in the CIAA and 4-2 in the Southern Division. They are tied for second place with Fayetteville State University, and both teams are one game behind division leader Winston-Salem State University. The Lady Falcons are on a three-match win streak.

Chowan is paced by Suraya Chase, a freshman outside hitter who ranks second in the CIAA in kills per set (3.19) and tied for third in kills (150) with Isidore of St. Aug. Junior middle blocker Nikira Fults leads the CIAA in hitting percentage (.330) and sophomore setter Kelsey Schlake leads the CIAA in assists per set (7.37).

The Hawks rank third in NCAA Division II in aces per set (3.1). They are 12-4 overall including a 12-1 CIAA mark. Chowan is tied for first in the CIAA Northern Division with Elizabeth City State University at 6-1. In an earlier matchup this season, the Hawks defeated the Lady Falcons in three sets at the CIAA Round-Up I on Sept. 14.

Barton is led by junior middle blocker Melissa Cochran, who leads the team in kills per set (3.31), blocks per set (1.10) and hitting percentage (.306). Freshman Kaitlyn Micol averages 2.37 kills per set and freshman Alex Ward averages 2.81 digs per set. Freshman Amber Kelly leads the team in assists per set (7.51). The Lady Bulldogs rank first in the Carolinas Conference in blocks per set (1.88).

Barton is 9-8 overall and third in the Carolinas Conference at 7-3. The Lady Bulldogs enter the Tri-Match having won their last three matches. They defeated Winston-Salem State 3-0 in their only meeting against a CIAA team entering the Tri-Match.
