St. Aug Hosts Shaw in Dig Pink Volleyball Match Thursday (Oct. 24)

The Saint Augustine's University volleyball team will host crosstown rival Shaw University in its Dig Pink Match at Emery Gymnasium on Thursday, October 24, 2013. Match time is 6 p.m. and admission is free. The Dig Pink Match is aimed at raising breast cancer awareness.

The Lady Falcons will wear pink ribbons and socks in addition to distributing information about breast cancer. Also, five women will be honored between the second and third sets including Rachel Cozart, Brenda Edwards, Sharon Sykes, Emmy Shackelford and Iris White.

Edwards is the mother and Rachel Cozart is the sister of volleyball recruiting coordinator Bruce Cozart. Sykes is the mother of middle blocker Victoria Davis (Sr./San Diego, Calif.) and Emmy Shackelford is the grandmother of softball player Michelle Shackelford (Sr./Laurel, Md.). Iris White is the mother of softball players Daja and Jo'Landa White.

The Lady Falcons need a victory to stay in contention for the CIAA Southern Division title. They are currently tied for third place and are two games out of first place at 4-3 in the division. On Oct. 10, 2013, the Lady Falcons swept the Lady Bears in three sets.

The Lady Falcons feature middle blocker Skyla Isidore (Jr./Morne Castries, St. Lucia) and defensive specialist Kayla Cason (Fr./Virginia Beach, Va.) Isidore ranks third in kills (186) and fifth in kills per set (2.86) and hitting percentage (.240) in the CIAA. Cason leads the Lady Falcons in digs per set (2.75) and Julieesa Thomas (Soph./St. Croix, US Virgin Islands) ranks fourth in the CIAA in assists per set (5.66).
