Lady Falcons Nearly Pull Comeback In Volleyball Loss To Fayetteville State

Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Olivia Porter (So./Bakersfield, CA) totaled 13 kills, 18 digs and five service aces as Saint Augustine's University nearly rallied from a 2-0 deficit, but the Lady Falcons succumbed in the fifth and final set to Fayetteville State University in a CIAA women's volleyball match at Capel Arena on Thursday, October 2, 2014.
 
The Lady Falcons fell to 0-3 in the Southern Division, 3-6 in the CIAA and 3-11 overall, but not before giving the two-time CIAA defending champs a major scare. The Lady Falcons lost the first two sets by scores of 25-15 and 27-25 before climbing back in the contest.
 
Danyelle Noland (Fr./Nashville, NC) scored a kill for the Lady Falcons in the third set to end a Lady Broncos rally for a 25-22 win. She finished with seven kills on the night.
 
The Lady Falcons tied the match in the fourth set 25-23 on kills by Porter and Mikayla Pettyjohn (Fr./Jamestown, NC), who had 10 kills and three total blocks for the match.
 
The fifth match went down to the wire. The Lady Falcons trailed 12-9, but tied the set at 13-13 behind two kills from Porter. The set was tied twice more at 14-14 and 15-15 before the Lady Broncos scored the last two points for the victory.
 
Juliseea Thomas (Jr./St. Croix, US VI) led the Lady Falcons with 16 assists and Meghan Mahon (So./Houston, TX) added 13 assists. Marley Parker (Fr./Langley, British Columbia) registered a team-high 20 digs and Thomas had 14 digs for the Lady Falcons.
 
Jayde Jacobs had 17 kills and Taylor Norris contributed 12 kills for the Lady Broncos, who are 3-0 in the Southern Division, 8-1 in the CIAA and 9-2 overall. Samira Luis had 10 kills, 14 digs and four service aces and Leah Mackley accounted for 51 assists. Decausha McLean led both teams with 26 digs while Mackley and Amy Beckett chipped in 14 digs and 12 digs, respectively.  Ashley Britton had eight total blocks followed by Norris with seven blocks and Jacobs with five blocks.
 
The Lady Falcons return home for a division match against Livingstone College at Emery Gymnasium on Tuesday, October 7. The match starts at 6 p.m.
