RALEIGH, N.C. – One week after stunning Winston-Salem State University, Saint Augustine's University is looking to pull another upset when it hosts two-time defending conference champion Fayetteville State University in a CIAA women's volleyball Dig Pink match at Emery Gymnasium on Monday, October 27, 2014. Admission is free for the 6 p.m. match.
The Lady Falcons will wear pink paraphernalia in support of breast cancer awareness. A brief recognition ceremony will be held between the second and third sets.
Last Monday inside Emery Gymnasium, the Lady Falcons topped Winston-Salem State, which entered the match sharing the Southern Division lead with Fayetteville State. The Lady Falcons won in five sets after losing in three sets to the Lady Rams earlier in the year.
Olivia Porter (So./Bakersfield, CA) had career-highs of 25 kills and 28 digs to lead the Lady Falcons.
The Lady Falcons are looking to avenge a close loss to Fayetteville State in early October. They pushed the Lady Broncos to five sets before losing on the road in Fayetteville, N.C. A win would keep the Lady Falcons in serious contention for a CIAA Tournament berth. The top four teams in the Southern Division and top four teams in the Northern Division advance to the tournament.
The Lady Falcons are currently tied for fourth in the Southern Division with Livingstone College at 3-4, but the Lady Falcons defeated the Lady Blue Bears in their first meeting this season. Both teams play again in Salisbury, N.C., on November 3.
The Lady Falcons (6-7 CIAA, 8-13 overall) are paced by Porter in addition to
Juliseea Thomas (Jr./St. Croix, US VI). Porter ranks third in total kills (258) and fourth in kills per set (3.27) in the CIAA. Thomas ranks seventh in total assists (373), eighth in total digs (236) and 10
th in assists per set (4.72) in the conference.
Marley Parker (Fr./Langley, British Columbia) is seventh in digs per set (3.36) and
Meghan Mahon (So./Houston, TX) is 10
th in total digs (212) in the CIAA.
The Lady Broncos (6-1 Southern Division, 11-2 CIAA, 13-6 overall) are led by Samira Luis, who ranks ninth in the CIAA in kills per set (2.82). Decausha McLean is fourth in digs per set (4.08) and Leah Mackley is second in assists per set (9.20).
