Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. –
Olivia Porter (So./Bakersfield, CA) led the way with 13 kills as Saint Augustine's University swept Livingstone College in three sets (25-16, 25-23, 25-22) for its first CIAA Southern Division volleyball win of the season at Emery Gymnasium on Tuesday, October 7, 2014.
Mikayla Pettyjohn (Fr./Jamestown, NC) added seven kills and three total blocks while
Juliseea Thomas (Jr./St. Croix, US VI) played an outstanding all-around match with seven kills, 18 assists and 11 digs for the Lady Falcons, who are 1-3 in the Southern Division, 4-6 in the CIAA and 4-11 overall.
The Lady Falcons received contributions from other players in the match.
Marley Parker (Fr./Langley, British Columbia) totaled 14 digs and
Elisa Ray (Fr./Nashville, TN) added 13 digs.
Meghan Mahon (So./Houston, TX) collected 14 assists.
Led by a balanced attack, the Lady Falcons breezed past the Lady Blue Bears in the first set. Porter paced the Lady Falcons with four kills while five other players had two kills.
The second and third sets were much more competitive but the Lady Falcons prevailed. The Lady Blue Bears led 23-22 in the second set, but the Lady Falcons scored the final three points to take a 2-0 lead. The Lady Falcons won the set on a Thomas kill off a Mahon assist and two errors by the Lady Blue Bears.
The third set was also close with the Lady Blue Bears leading 22-21, but the Lady Falcons scored four consecutive points to win the match. Two kills by Pettyjohn and a kill each from Thomas and Porter finished off the Lady Blue Bears, who are 2-2 in the Southern Division, 4-6 in the CIAA and 9-7 overall. Mahon had three assists and Thomas one assist during the match-winning run.
Carrie Blunt and Lareecia Swiney paced the Lady Blue Bears with 16 and 12 kills, respectively. LaPria Saunders amassed 27 assists and eight digs while Iman Isom chipped in 17 digs.
The Lady Falcons venture to Spaulding Gymnasium to visit crosstown rival Shaw University on Thursday, October 9 in Raleigh, N.C. The match begins at 6 p.m.
