Kick Returners, Linebackers Stand Out For Falcons In Loss

Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – The kick returners and linebackers were the highlights for Saint Augustine's University in a 30-0 non-conference football loss to Wingate University at Len Bauer Stadium on Saturday, September 13, 2014.
 
Claytin Lewis (Fr./Raleigh, NC) averaged 41 yards on three kick returns and Jamal Parker (R-So./Hampton, VA) averaged 36.5 yards on two kick returns for the Falcons. Parker returned one kickoff 48 yards and Lewis returned two kickoffs 53 and 41 yards, respectively, to set up the Falcons on potential scoring drives.
 
On defense, linebackers Elijah Evans (R-Jr./College Park, GA) and Carlton Butts (Sr./Thomasville, GA) shared game-high tackling honors with 10 apiece and Evans added 2.5 tackles for loss including a sack. Defensive back Anthony Tucker (R-Fr./Garner, NC) had seven tackles and defensive lineman Chasz Cosby (Fr./Charlotte, NC) totaled six tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack.
 
The Falcons (0-2) fell behind 20-0 at halftime and never recovered against the Bulldogs (2-0), who ran 85 offensive plays to 62 for the Falcons. The Bulldogs won time of possession by a little more than five minutes. Despite the discrepancy, the Falcons held Wingate to a touchdown and field goal in the second half.
 
The Falcons return to action on the road against Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Saturday, September 20. Kickoff is 3 p.m. central standard time which is 4 p.m. eastern standard time.
