Porter Racks 16 Kills In Volleyball Loss To Elizabeth City State

Box Score MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Olivia Porter (So./Bakersfield, CA) recorded a team-high 16 kills in a five-set loss to Elizabeth City State University on the final day of the CIAA Round-Up I at the Helms Center on the Chowan University campus Sunday, September 14, 2014.

The loss comes one day after the Lady Falcons defeated Virginia State 3-1 and lost to host Chowan 0-3. The victory over Virginia State gave the Lady Falcons their first win this season.

The Lady Falcons nearly rallied from a 2-0 deficit against Elizabeth City State. They barely lost the first two sets by scores of 22-25 and 24-26 before evening the match with 27-25 and 25-21 victories in the third and fourth set, respectively.

Three kills by Porter and a service ace by Meghan Mahon (So./Houston, TX) put the Lady Falcons ahead 10-8 in the fifth set, but the Lady Vikings surged ahead 13-10. Juliseea Thomas (Jr./St. Croix, US Virgin Islands) tied the score 14-14 with a kill, but two attack errors by the Lady Falcons gave the Lady Vikings the win.

Marley Parker (Fr./Langley, British Columbia) added eight kills while Mikayla Pettyjohn (Fr./Jamestown, NC) and Danyelle Noland (Fr./Nashville, NC) each contributed six kills for the Lady Falcons. Thomas produced 27 assists while Parker led four Lady Falcons in digs with 19.

Pettyjohn was tough at the net as she amassed four solo blocks and six blocking assists. Porter chipped in 17 digs while Mahon and Thomas had 15 and 12 digs, respectively.
The Lady Falcons host Johnson C. Smith University in their home opener at Emery Gymnasium on Thursday, Sept. 18. The match begins at 6 p.m.
