Trio Stars For Falcons In Loss To Nationally-Ranked Indiana (Pa.)

Box Score INDIANA, Pa. –A.J. Gilford (R-Soph./Savannah, GA) threw two touchdown passes,  Roderick Davenport (R-Jr./Orangeburg, SC) rushed for 111 yards and Claytin Lewis (Fr./Raleigh, NC) grabbed seven passes for 113 yards for Saint Augustine's University in a 41-19 non-conference season-opening football loss to nationally-ranked Indiana (Pa.) University at Miller Stadium on Saturday, September 6, 2014.

 The trio of Jordan Turkvant (R-Jr./Orangeburg, SC), Tyson McDonald (Fr./Meridian, MS) and Reece Bradley (R-Soph./Fredericksburg, VA) each scored a touchdown for the Falcons, who outgained IUP 379 yards to 357 yards on offense. Gilford completed 21 of 31 pass attempts for 260 yards and a 68 percent completion rate.

Defensively, safety Denzel Watkins (Jr./Troutman, NC) led the Falcons with 10 tackles while cornerback Anthony Tucker (R-Fr./Garner, NC) and linebacker Carlton Butts (Sr./Thomasville, GA) both collected seven tackles each. Safety John'ta Cooper (Sr./Cairo, GA) intercepted a pass and defensive end Darius Goodman (R-Fr./Richmond, VA) contributed a sack.
Indiana (Pa.), ranked 20th in the AFCA Division II Coaches Poll, took control of the contest by scoring on its first four possessions for a 27-0 lead in the first half. The Falcons scored in the second quarter when Gilford found McDonald on a 14-yard touchdown pass to cap a 14-play, 81-yard drive. Michael Lima (R-Sr./Miami, FL) made the extra point to cut the deficit to 27-7.

The Crimson Hawks took a 34-7 lead in the third quarter, but the Falcons came right back and scored when Bradley recovered his own fumble in the end zone. The big play in the drive was a 43-yard pass play from Gilford to Lewis to the IUP four-yard line.

IUP took a 41-13 lead in the fourth quarter, but Turkvant scored on the game's final play when he leaped high to snatch a seven-yard pass from Gilford. Turkvant was covered tightly by an IUP defender when he made the catch.

The next game for the Falcons is home against Wingate University on Saturday, September 13. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m.
