Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – Julius Murphy (Redshirt So./Goldsboro, NC) tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Turkvant (Redshirt Sr./Orangeburg, SC) for Saint Augustine's University in a 31-7 CIAA football loss to Livingstone College at the George Williams Athletic Complex on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015.
The Falcons scored with 38 seconds left in the first half to cut their deficit to 15-7. The Blue Bears scored 16 points in the second half to pull away for the win.
The Falcons managed 192 passing yards despite a steady downpour throughout the contest. Murphy completed 17 of 33 passes for 172 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. His favorite targets were Turkvant and Jamal Parker (Sr./Hampton, VA). Turkvant snatched seven passes for 59 yards and one touchdown while Parker grabbed six receptions for 77 yards. The touchdown catch was the first this season for Turkvant.
Though the Falcons experienced some success in the air, they were undone by four turnovers. The mistakes led to 15 points for the Blue Bears which helped them gain the victory. The Blue Bears committed zero turnovers in addition to gaining 358 offensive yards.
As in previous games, the Falcons' defense held firm until the second half when they simply wore down. Several defenders stood out including linebackers Durell Newby (Redshirt Jr./Graham, NC) and Terry Warren (So./Franklin, VA). Newby led all players with 13 tackles including one tackle for loss and Warren added 10 tackles. The Falcons totaled six tackles for loss including one sack each by linebackers Cameron Brown (Fr./Decatur, GA) and Chris Roberts (Sr./Albany, GA).
For the Blue Bears, the trio of Drew Powell, Jalen Hendricks and Jarius Richardson carried the offense. Powell completed 15 of 20 passes for 192 yards and Hendricks, last season's CIAA Offensive Player of the Year, caught nine passes for 141 yards. Powell and Hendricks hooked up for three touchdown passes and Richardson added a short touchdown run. He gained 94 rushing yards.
Leonardo Manzo added two field goals for the Blue Bears including one from 54 yards. Defensive back Jerod Richardson tallied nine tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss.
Next Saturday, Oct, 17, the Falcons will host Winston-Salem State University in a CIAA Southern Division duel at the George Williams Athletic Complex. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
