Lady Falcons Visit Livingstone In Volleyball Monday (Oct. 12)

Saint Augustine's University will visit Livingstone College in a CIAA Southern Division women's volleyball match at New Trent Gymnasium on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015. The match begins at 6 p.m.

Both teams enter the match tied for fourth place in the division. The top four Southern Division teams at the end of the regular season will advance to the CIAA Tournament, which will be held Nov. 20-22 in Fayetteville, N.C.

The match features two of the top hitters in the conference. Olivia Porter (Jr./Bakersfield, CA) of Saint Augustine's University is second in kills (147) and third in kills per set (3.06) in the CIAA. Lareecia Swiney of Livingstone leads the league in kills per set (3.71) and ranks fourth in kills (130). She is also tied for fourth in service aces per set (0.51).

Porter is backed by a solid supporting cast. Zoey Isom (Fr./Phoenix, AZ) is the CIAA leader in digs (254) and digs per set (5.29). Juliseea Thomas (Sr./St. Croix, US Virgin Islands) ranks seventh in assists (253) and Mikayla Pettyjohn (So./Jamestown, NC) is tied for seventh in blocks (32). Shakera Hall (Fr./Bridgetown, Barbados) is second on the team in kills per set (1.97) for the Lady Falcons (1-2 Southern Division, 3-3 CIAA, 7-7 overall).

Swiney is backed by Stevee Cotton and Jekisha Rhymes for Livingstone. Cotton is fourth in the CIAA in assists per set (6.13, ) and tied with Rhymes for 13^th in service aces per set (0.44). As a team, the Lady Blue Bears are fourth in the CIAA in service aces per set (2.06).

Livingstone (1-2 Southern Division, 1-5 CIAA, 4-8 overall) will be facing one of the CIAA's best defensive teams in the Lady Falcons. Sparked by the play of Isom and Porter, the Lady Falcons are second in the conference in digs per set (15.56). Porter is 10^th in the CIAA in digs (130).

Both teams will meet again next month. The Lady Falcons will host the Lady Blue Bears on Nov. 10 at Emery Gymnasium at 6 p.m.
