SAU Volleyball Team Hosts Johnson C. Smith In Purple Match of Honor Monday (Match Notes)

Saint Augustine's University will host Johnson C. Smith University in a CIAA Southern Division women's volleyball match at Emery Gymnasium in Raleigh, N.C., on Monday, Oct. 19, 2015. Admission is free to the match, which begins at 6 p.m.

Records
The Lady Falcons are fifth in the CIAA Southern Division. Their record is 1-4 in the division, 3-5 in the CIAA and 7-9 overall. The Golden Bulls are sixth in the Southern Division. Their record is 0-5 in the division, 1-7 in the CIAA and 3-13 overall.

Purple Match of Honor
The match against Johnson C. Smith University on Monday will be designated as the Purple Match of Honor to bring awareness to violence. Fans are asked to wear purple at the match.

Season Series
The Lady Falcons are 6-3 against the Golden Bulls including a 3-1 record at Emery Gymnasium under Head Coach Nikki Bynum Bumpass, who is in her fifth season at Saint Augustine's University.

Last Meeting
The Lady Falcons defeated the Golden Bulls 3-1 (25-17, 15-25, 25-15, 25-19) at Brayboy Gymnasium in Charlotte, N.C. on Sept. 24. Mikayla Pettyjohn recorded a career-high 15 kills and added five blocks to lead the Lady Falcons.

Story Line
The Lady Falcons are looking to sweep the Golden Bulls to stay in the hunt for a CIAA Tournament berth. The top four Southern Division teams at the end of the regular season will advance to the CIAA Tournament, which will be held Nov. 20-22 in Fayetteville, N.C.

Previous Match
The Lady Falcons lost to Shaw University in a five-set heartbreaker on Oct. 14. The scores were 23-25, 25-22, 19-25, 26-24, 13-15. The Falcons led 13-8 in the fifth set, but the Lady Bears scored seven consecutive points for the win. Olivia Porter led the Lady Falcons with 17 kills and 20 digs and Brittany Jamison added 12 kills. Juliseea Thomas totaled 31 assists, 11 digs and three service aces. Zoey Isom recorded 29 digs.

Porter Among League's Top Hitters
A Preseason All-CIAA pick, Olivia Porter is having a stellar season for the Lady Falcons. She ranks third in total kills (180) and third in kills per set (3.16) in the CIAA.

Isom Leads CIAA In Digs
Freshman Zoey Isom is making an immediate impact on the Lady Falcons squad. She is first in the CIAA in digs (293) and digs per set (5.14).

Lady Falcons Lead CIAA In Team Digs
The Lady Falcons use their quickness and athleticism to their advantage on defense. They lead the CIAA in total digs (902) and digs per set (15.82).

More CIAA Statistical Rankings
Juliseea Thomas ranks sixth in assists (303) and eighth in assists per set (5.32). Mikayla Pettyjohn (So./Jamestown, NC) is fifth in total blocks (39) and Olivia Porter is tied for eighth in total digs (163).

About Johnson C. Smith
The Golden Bulls are led by Salesse Stovall and Anteesha Smoots. Stovall leads the team in kills per set (1.86) and Smoots is second (1.75). Khadijah Segura is seventh in the CIAA in total assists (290) and assists per set (5.58). She also is the league leader in service aces per set (0.67) and second in total service aces (35).
