Volleyball Team Hosts Fayetteville State And Morris Thursday and Friday (Oct. 8-9)

RALEIGH, N.C. – Saint Augustine's University will host Fayetteville State University on Thursday, Oct. 8, and Morris College on Friday, Oct. 9, in back-to-back women's volleyball matches at Emery Gymnasium. Both matches will begin at 6 p.m., and admission is free.

he Lady Falcons will battle Fayetteville State in a key CIAA Southern Division match. Both teams are tied for third in the division at 1-1. The winner will move into a second-place tie with either Shaw University or Winston-Salem State University. Both Shaw and Winston-Salem State are undefeated in the division at 2-0 heading into their match Thursday.

Preseason All-CIAA pick Olivia Porter (Jr./Bakersfield, CA) continues to be a bright spot for the Lady Falcons (6-6 overall, 3-2 CIAA). She is second in kills (135) and third in kills per set (3.21) in the CIAA. Zoey Isom (Fr./Phoenix, AZ) leads the CIAA in digs (225) and digs per set (5.36).

Preseason All-CIAA selection Juliseea Thomas (Sr./St. Croix, US Virgin Islands) is seventh in assists (212) and Mikayla Pettyjohn (So./Jamestown, NC) is tied for fifth in blocks (29) in the CIAA. Shakera Hall (Fr./Bridgetown, Barbados) is second in kills per set (1.93) for the Lady Falcons, who are the league leaders in digs per set (15.33).

he Lady Falcons will tangle against a Lady Broncos' squad led by Samira Luis and Shavon Shaw. Luis, a preseason All-CIAA choice, has totaled 13 kills apiece in her last two matches. Shavon Shaw is sixth in the conference in kills per set (2.74) and Jessica Hardy is third in the CIAA in assists per set (6.39).

T
he Lady Broncos (4-7 overall, 2-3 CIAA) reached the CIAA finals last season after capturing the league crown in 2012 and 2013. The defending Southern Division champs are second in the CIAA in blocks per set (1.79).

This will be the first meeting between the CIAA schools this season. They will see each other again on Tuesday, Nov. 3, in Fayetteville, N.C., at 6 p.m.

Morris College is winless in 11 reported matches this season. The Lady Hornets are led by Tyesha Ravenell with 49 kills and She'Andra Famble with 60 assists.
