Lady Falcons Face Fayetteville State For Second Time This Season

Lady Falcons Begin Crucial Three-Match Volleyball Stretch Against Fayetteville State Thursday, Nov. 5 (Match Notes)

Saint Augustine's University visits Fayetteville State University in a CIAA Southern Division women's volleyball match on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015. The match begins at 3 p.m. at Capel Arena in Fayetteville, N.C.

 

Records
The Lady Falcons are tied for fourth in the Southern Division. Their record is 2-5 in the division, 7-6 in the CIAA and 11-11 overall. The Lady Broncos are third in the Southern Division. Their record is 5-2 in the division, 7-4 in the CIAA and 10-9 overall.

 

Story Line
The Lady Falcons begin a crucial three-match stretch against Fayetteville State. They need a win to stay in contention for a CIAA Tournament berth. The top four Southern Division teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the tournament, which will be held Nov. 20-22 in Fayetteville, N.C.

About The Lady Falcons' Head Coach
Nikki Bynum Bumpass is in her fifth season as the Lady Falcons' volleyball coach. She directed the Lady Falcons to the CIAA title in 2011. Under her guidance, the Lady Falcons have captured four consecutive CIAA team highest grade point average awards in volleyball. Bumpass is also the softball coach for the Lady Falcons, who won the 2015 CIAA crown and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

 

Last Meeting
The Lady Falcons lost to the Lady Broncos 3-0 (16-25, 22-25, 23-25) in Raleigh, N.C., on Oct. 8. Juliseea Thomas led the Lady Falcons with five kills, 11 assists and 11 digs. Olivia Porter added five kills and Zoey Isom totaled 16 digs.

 

Previous Match
The Lady Falcons won all three matches in the CIAA Round-Up II in Lincoln University, Pa., on Oct. 31-Nov. 1. They defeated Bowie State University 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-17), Lincoln (Pa.) University 3-1 (25-13, 21-25, 25-20, 25-14) and Virginia Union University 3-2 (18-25, 25-22, 26-24, 17-25, 15-12).

 

Porter Among CIAA's Top Hitters
A Preseason All-CIAA pick, Olivia Porter (Jr./Bakersfield, CA) is having a stellar season for the Lady Falcons. She ranks third in total kills (252) and kills per set (3.23) in the CIAA.

 

Isom Leads CIAA In Digs
Freshman Zoey Isom (Phoenix, AZ) is making an immediate impact on the Lady Falcons squad. She is first in the CIAA in digs (395) and digs per set (5.06).

 

Thomas Among CIAA's Assists Leaders
Juliseea Thomas (Sr./St. Croix, US Virgin Islands) ranks fourth in assists (426) and seventh in assists per set (5.46) in the CIAA.

 

Lady Falcons Lead CIAA In Team Digs
The Lady Falcons use their quickness and athleticism to their advantage on defense. They rank second in total digs (1,230) and digs per set (15.77) in the CIAA.

 

About Fayetteville State
Samira Luis ranks fourth in the CIAA in kills per set (2.86) and Jessica Hardy is fifth in the conference in assists per set (5.57). Ashley Britton ranks second in the CIAA in blocks per set (0.96). Reeshemah Johnson is the head coach of the Lady Broncos, who rank second in blocks (133), block assists (172) and blocks per set (1.85) in the CIAA.

 

Next Match
The Lady Falcons host Livingstone College on Senior Night in their last home match of the season on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Match time is 6 p.m. at Emery Gymnasium in Raleigh, N.C.
