Box Score
RALEIGH, N.C. – Roderick Davenport II (Sr./Orangeburg, SC) scored a touchdown for Saint Augustine's University, but the Falcons lost 42-7 to Virginia Union University in a non-conference football game between CIAA teams at Baker Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015.

Davenport scored on a seven-yard run in the fourth quarter. Sean Smith (R-Fr./Valdosta, GA) booted the extra point.

Davenport's touchdown was one of several highlights for the Falcons. Wide receivers Jamal Parker (Sr./Hampton, VA) and Joseph Baker (Fr./Goldsboro, NC) combined for eight catches. Parker had four receptions for 66 yards and Baker caught four passes for 65 yards.

On defense, linebacker Tray King (So./Kershaw, SC) led the Falcons with 10 tackles, including one sack, and had a fumble recovery. Linebacker Durrell Newby (R-Jr./Graham, NC) added nine tackles for the Falcons.

Head Coach Michael Morand said the Falcons never quit despite the loss.

"
I liked the way the team fought," Morand said. "They were clawing and scratching to the end. We are getting better day by day."

For Virginia Union (2-0 overall), Shawheem Dowdy threw three touchdown passes and Hakeem Holland rushed for 153 yards on 18 carries. Holland scored twice including a 40-yard screen pass from Dowdy in the first quarter to give the Panthers their first of six touchdowns.

The Falcons (0-2 overall) will host Elizabeth City State University in another non-conference game between CIAA foes on Saturday, Sept. 19. Game time is 1 p.m.

"
Elizabeth City State is a pretty strong team," Morand said. "But it is not about them. It is about us getting better."
