Lady Falcons Split Pair Of Matches At CIAA Volleyball Round-Up I

RALEIGH, N.C. – Saint Augustine's University bounced back to defeat Virginia State University 3-0 after losing to Chowan University 3-0 on the first day of the CIAA Volleyball Round-Up I at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015.

Against Virginia State, Olivia Porter (Jr./Bakersfield, CA) led the Lady Falcons with 14 kills and 17 digs in the 26-24, 25-13, 26-24 victory. Shakera Hall (Fr./Bridgetown, Barbados) added 11 kills and Juliseea Thomas (Sr./St. Croix, US Virgin Islands) had 31 assists, four service aces, seven digs and four blocks. Zoey Isom (Fr./Phoenix, AZ) added 15 digs and Mikayla Pettyjohn (So./Jamestown, NC) had three blocks.

For Virginia State, the trio of Brookie Dargan, Myia Jones and Alexsys Pullen each totaled seven kills. Diamond Simpson finished with 18 assists and 12 digs while Adriana Hazou had 19 digs.

Against Chowan, Porter and Hall both registered eight kills each for the Lady Falcons in the 25-18, 25-15, 25-18 defeat. Thomas totaled 20 assists and Isom had 15 digs. For Chowan, Suraya Chase and Brianna Smith each had eight kills, and Becca Page and Lindsey Denne each tallied 16 assists. Cindy Ehrich and Alyssa Born collected 14 digs and 13 digs, respectively.

In the day's final match at Emery Gymnasium, Chowan defeated Fayetteville State University in three sets. Morgan Spencer was Chowan's top hitter with 12 kills and Page added 20 assists in the 25-15, 27-25, 25-21 win. Born had 18 digs while Chase and Ehrich both finished with 15 digs.

For Fayetteville State, Brittany McCoy and Shavon Shaw had 12 kills and 11 kills, respectively. Ashley Smith contributed 15 assists and Nikita Cheadle amassed 24 digs.

The Lady Falcons (4-5 overall, 1-1 CIAA) return to action Sunday, Sept. 20, in the Round-Up with a match against Elizabeth City State University inside Emery Gymnasium at 1 p.m. The first match pits Fayetteville State versus Virginia State at 11 a.m.
