Pettyjohn Amasses Career-High In SAU Volleyball Victory Over Johnson C. Smith

Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Mikayla Pettyjohn (So./Jamestown, NC) recorded a career-high 15 kills and added five blocks to lead Saint Augustine's University past Johnson C. Smith University 3-1 in the CIAA Southern Division volleyball opener at Brayboy Gymnasium on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2015.

The Lady Falcons extended their win streak to three matches with the 25-17, 15-25, 25-17, 25-19 victory. They improved to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in the CIAA with a big home match coming up against Winston-Salem State University on Monday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. The Lady Falcons are sitting atop the Southern Division standings along with Winston-Salem State and Shaw University at 1-0.

Behind the play of Pettyjohn, the Lady Falcons dispatched the Golden Bulls to gain the first-place tie. Her previous high in kills was 13 which she accomplished twice last season as a freshman. A talented middle blocker, Pettyjohn reached double figures in kills for the fourth time in her two-year career.

Olivia Porter (Jr./Bakersfield, CA) added nine kills for the Lady Falcons. Meghan Mahon (So./Houston, TX) and Juliseea Thomas (Sr./St. Croix, US Virgin Islands) totaled 19 and 13 assists, respectively, and Joey Isom (Fr./Phoenix, AZ) finished with 27 digs. Mahon tied a career-high in assists.

For Johnson C. Smith, Salesse Stovall registered 13 kills and Khadijah Segura added 30 assists. Raven Bandy had 15 digs for the Golden Bulls, who dropped to 0-1 in the Southern Division, 1-3 in the CIAA and 1-9 overall.
