Falcons Visit North Carolina Central In Football Season Opener Saturday (Sept. 5)

Saint Augustine's University opens the football season against a familiar foe on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015.

The Falcons travel to Durham, N.C., to take on former CIAA member North Carolina Central University in a non-conference game at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium. Game time is 6 p.m.

The Eagles are now a member of the Division I Football Championship Subdivision. A victory would give the Falcons, a Division II member, their first-ever win over a Division I opponent.

The previous matchups between the Falcons and Eagles have been highly competitive. Both teams have split the last four contests at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium with the Falcons winning 34-31 in 2003 and 22-8 in 2005.

The Eagles won the last two games by an average margin of 4.5 points. The Falcons lost 6-0 in 2007 and 23-20 in double overtime in 2013. The Falcons led late but the Eagles scored in the waning seconds of regulation to force overtime.

The Falcons return 30 lettermen including Preseason All-CIAA rusher Roderick Davenport II (Sr./Orangeburg, SC), who was an All-CIAA and All-Region performer last season after leading the conference in rushing. He is 566 yards away from becoming the Falcons' career rushing leader in the modern era.

The Eagles bring back 51 lettermen from last season's squad which shared the MEAC Championship. Quarterback Malcolm Bell and Mike Jones, a defensive back and return specialist, are Preseason All-MEAC first-team selections.

The contest is designated as the Prince Hall Shriners Diabetes Football Classic. It was established by the Prince Hall Shriners Foundation as a way to raise awareness of diabetes.
