Porter Records 16 Kills In Volleyball Loss To West Virginia State

RALEIGH, N.C. – Preseason All-CIAA selection Olivia Porter (Jr./Bakersfield, CA) amassed a match-high 16 kills, but Saint Augustine's University fell to West Virginia State University in three sets (28-26, 25-13, 25-13) in the inaugural Lady Falcon Volleyball Challenge at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday, September 5, 2015.

Juliseea Thomas (Sr./St. Croix, US Virgin Islands) finished with 21 assists and Zoey Isom (Fr./Phoenix, AZ) registered 18 digs for the Lady Falcons, who are 1-2 overall. Elisa Ray (So./Nashville, TN) chipped in 11 digs for the Lady Falcons.

The Lady Falcons started strongly, opening a 13-8 lead in the first set. West Virginia State rallied to tie the score at 25-25 and eventually won the set by two points. After the tough first-set loss, the Lady Falcons never recovered in the second and third sets.

Allison Tumey led West Virginia State (2-0 overall) with 11 kills and Brenna Barker had 17 assists. Brooke Cieslewski collected 20 digs.

Despite the loss, Head Coach Nikki Bynum Bumpass was pleased with the Lady Falcon Challenge, which was hosted by Saint Augustine's University. Five teams including Saint Augustine's University participated in the event, and seven matches were played in two days at Emery Gymnasium.

Thanks to everyone who made the Lady Falcon Challenge a success," Bumpass said. "We are thankful for the caliber of competition the participating teams displayed this weekend."

he Lady Falcons will compete again on Wednesday, Sept. 9, against neighboring William Peace University at Emery Gymnasium. Match time is 6 p.m.

"The ladies will rest and return ready for action next week," Bumpass said.
