Lady Falcons Still In Position To Reach CIAA Tournament

RALEIGH, NC (Oct 31) – On Monday, Saint Augustine's University dropped a three-set CIAA volleyball match to Fayetteville State University at Emery Gymnasium. The scores were 21-25, 11-25 and 13-25.

Despite the loss, the Lady Falcons (8-12 overall) remain fourth in the Southern Division with two weeks left in the regular season. Eight teams – the top four teams in the Northern and Southern Divisions – will advance to the CIAA Tournament on Nov. 18-20 in Ettrick, Va.

The Lady Falcons visit Livingstone College on Wednesday, Nov. 7 in a match that will likely determine the fourth seed in the division. Currently, the Lady Falcons are 3-5 in the division and Livingstone is fifth at 1-6. In the first match on Oct. 10, the Lady Falcons won 3-1 in Raleigh, N.C. A sweep would give the Lady Falcons the edge in case of a tiebreaker.

Against Fayetteville State, Shakera Hall (So./Bridgetown, Barbados) led the Lady Falcons with six kills. Meghan Mahon (Sr./Houston, TX) handed out 19 assists and Zoey Isom (So./Phoenix, AZ) totaled 17 digs.

Samira Luis registered 12 kills, 11 digs and four block assists for Fayetteville State (14-5 overall), which is tied for first in the Southern Division at 6-1. Nakia McKinnie had 21 assists and Arlicia Ortiz tallied 13 digs.

The first set was the closest as the Lady Falcons erased a 16-9 deficit to pull into a 20-20 tie. But Fayetteville State outscored the Lady Falcons 5-1 to win the set. The visitors took control the rest of the match.

After the Livingstone match, the Lady Falcons will host Shaw University in the season finale on Friday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. It will be the last home match for seniors Mahon, Olivia Porter (Sr./Bakersfield, CA) and Lindsay Baker (manager).
