Meghan Mahon, Olivia Porter And Lindsay Baker Will Be Honored Before The Match
RALEIGH, NC (Nov 10) – On Friday, Nov. 11, Saint Augustine's University will host archrival Shaw University in the final regular season volleyball match for the Lady Falcons. The match begins at 6 p.m. inside Emery Gymnasium and admission is free.
The Lady Falcons are led by the top two offensive hitters in the CIAA. Shakera Hall (So./Bridgetown, Barbados) leads the conference in kills per set (4.13) and Olivia Porter (Sr./Bakersfield, CA) ranks second (3.74). Setting up both players is Meghan Mahon (Sr./Houston, TX), who is second in the league in assists per set (8.44).
The contest has added significance for Porter and Mahon. They - along with team manager Lindsay Baker (Sr./Tallahassee, Fla.) - will be honored on Senior Night with the ceremony taking place before the match.
After the ceremony, the Lady Falcons will attempt to even the season series against the Lady Bears, who won the first match in three sets at Spaulding Gymnasium on Oct. 13. Kelly Murphy and Keveesha Wattley are the catalysts for the Lady Bears (7-1 Southern Division, 17-7 overall), who lead the CIAA Southern Division. Murphy is third in the CIAA in kills per set (3.29) and first in service aces per set (0.64). Wattley is second in hitting percentage (.296) and sixth in kills per set (2.90) in the conference.
No matter the outcome, the season continues for the Lady Falcons (4-5 Southern Division, 9-12 overall). They will compete in the CIAA Tournament next week as the No. 4 seed in the Southern Division. The Lady Falcons locked up a tournament berth with a 3-1 victory over Livingstone College on Monday, Nov. 7. The CIAA Tournament will be held Nov. 18-20 at Virginia State University in Ettrick, Va.
