Falcons Coach Recognized For Success On And Off The Field
RALEIGH, NC (Dec 6) – Saint Augustine's University's Alvin Parker was named a finalist for the 2016 NCAA Division II National Assistant Coach of the Year Award by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
Parker, who just completed his first season as Assistant Head Coach/Run Game Coordinator for the Falcons, was one of three finalists for the honor, which was created to recognize assistant football coaches who excel in the following areas: community service, commitment to the student-athlete, on-field coaching success and involvement in an AFCA professional organization. This is the fourth straight time in his 19-year coaching career that Parker has been a finalist for the AFCA Award.
A 16-year AFCA member, Parker is the president of Home Team Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization geared towards helping underprivileged youth both athletically and academically. He is also on the AFCA Minority Issues Committee.
On the field, Parker was pivotal in helping the Falcons improve offensively this season. The Falcons averaged more points, rushing yards, passing yards and total offensive yards than a year ago.
