Former Standout Cato Qualifies For Rio Olympics

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Former Saint Augustine's University standout Roxroy Cato qualified for the Rio Olympics in the men's 400 hurdles in the Jamaica Track and Field National Trials at National Stadium Friday night, July 1, 2016.

The top three finishers advanced to the Rio Olympics, which will be held Aug. 5-21, 2016. Cato booked his ticket to Rio by placing third in 48.96 seconds. Current Falcons' star Shawn Rowe (Jr./West Palm Beach, Fla.) also competed in the finals, finishing sixth in 49.95 seconds.

Both Cato and Rowe reached the finals by taking the top two spots in the first preliminary heat. Cato won the heat in 49.83 seconds followed by Rowe in 50.27 seconds.

A 2012 Olympian, Cato was the NCAA Division II 400 hurdles outdoor champion and 400 dash indoor champion at Saint Augustine's University in 2014.
