RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept 5) – On Sunday, late heroics by Olivia Porter (Sr./Bakersfield, CA) lifted Saint Augustine's University past Methodist University 3-2 on the final day of the VSU Volleyball Tournament in Richmond, Va. The final score was 25-17, 17-25, 18-25, 25-23, 20-18.
The win evened the Lady Falcons record to 2-2 overall. Earlier in the day, the Lady Falcons fell to Virginia State University 3-1.
Porter clinched the victory with two consecutive kills in the fifth set to break an 18-18 tie. She finished with a career-high 36 kills and added 16 digs for the Lady Falcons, who rallied from a 2-1 deficit.
Meghan Mahon (Sr./Houston, TX) amassed 61 assists including the last two to Porter for the win. The assist total was the most by a Lady Falcons player in recent memory.
Shakera Hall (So./Bridgetown, Barbados) added a career-high 19 kills and 12 digs. Zoey Isom (So./Phoenix, AZ) totaled 27 digs and Akera McPhaul (Jr./Greensboro, NC) added nine kills.
Against Virginia State, Porter notched 17 kills and McPhaul added 13 kills in the 3-1 loss. The score was 22-25, 14-25, 27-25, 22-25.
Hall tallied 10 kills and a career-high 25 digs. Mahon had 41 assists and eight digs while Isom was credited with 17 digs.
The Lady Falcons are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 10. They face Meredith College at 12 p.m. and William Peace University at 4 p.m. in the William Peace Tournament in Raleigh, N.C.
