RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 4) – After a successful weekend at the CIAA Roundup II, Saint Augustine's University will host Fayetteville State University in a CIAA Southern Division volleyball matchup at Emery Gymnasium on Thursday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m.
The Lady Falcons won two of three matches at the Roundup, and are counting on momentum from this past weekend to help them capture their first division victory. They are 0-2 in the Southern Division and 3-5 overall.
Leading the way for the Lady Falcons are several skilled student-athletes. Outside hitter Shakera Hall (Jr./Bridgetown, Barbados) is the Division II national leader in kills per set (5.92) and setter Taylor Irving (Fr./Litchfield, AZ) ranks second in the CIAA in assists per set (7.83). Libero Zoey Isom (Jr./Phoenix, AZ) is tied for third in digs per set (4.12) and utility player Chandra Mackey (Fr./Nassau, Bahamas) ranks 12th in Division II nationally and fourth in the CIAA in service aces per set (0.56). The Lady Falcons are tied for third in the CIAA in service aces per set (2.28) and rank fourth in digs per set (13.68).
Arlicia Ortiz of Fayetteville State is tied for first in the conference in total kills (152) and ranks fifth in total digs (187). Jayde Jacobs ranks third in the CIAA in hitting percentage (.340) for the Broncos (1-1 Southern Division, 11-6 overall), who rank third in kills per set (10.83) and assists per set (9.72).
After hosting Fayetteville State, the Lady Falcons visit Livingstone College on Monday, Oct. 9, in Salisbury, N.C. Match time is 6 p.m.
