RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 16) – Zack Jenkins (Jr./Madison, GA) and Lenwood Joyner (Jr./Miami, FL) of Saint Augustine's University were selected to the NCAA Division II Academic All-District Super Region 2 Football Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. The Super Region 2 district consists of teams from the South Atlantic Conference, Gulf South Conference, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), which includes Saint Augustine's University.
The only CIAA scholar-athletes on the 28-member team, Joyner and Jenkins enjoyed stellar seasons on the field and in the classroom. They helped the Falcons tie Fayetteville State University for the best conference mark (5-2) in the Southern Division and post an overall record (5-5) of .500 or better for the first time since 2012.
A criminal justice major, Jenkins was highlighted for having a 3.89 cumulative grade point average (GPA) in addition to earning honorable mention All-CIAA honors on the field as an offensive tackle. His blocking helped the Falcons average 206.9 rushing yards in conference games, which ranked fourth in the CIAA.
A sport management major, Joyner impressed CoSIDA voters with a 3.57 cumulative GPA and his pass-catching ability on the gridiron. Ranked second on the team in receptions (36), the Falcons wide receiver was one of the top deep ball threats in the CIAA. He ranked fifth in the conference in yards per catch (14.7) and seventh in catches.
By earning academic all-district honors, both Jenkins and Joyner automatically advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America football ballot. The academic All-America selections will be announced Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017.
