RALEIGH, NC (Sept. 15) – Saint Augustine's University begins the 2017 women's volleyball season at the CIAA Roundup I in Winston-Salem, N.C., this weekend.
The Lady Falcons are set to take on three CIAA Northern Division teams at the Gaines Center on the Winston-Salem State University campus. The first match is against Chowan University on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 12 p.m. On the same day, the Lady Falcons face Virginia Union University at 3 p.m.
Play concludes Sunday, Sept. 17, when the Lady Falcons meet Lincoln (Pa.) University at 1 p.m.
A formidable group of returnees are back for the Lady Falcons. Preseason All-CIAA outside hitter Shakera Hall (Jr./Bridgetown, Barbados) led the conference in kills per set last season and libero player Zoey Isom (Jr./Phoenix, AZ) was named CIAA Rookie of the Year as a freshman.
Akera McPhaul (Sr./Greensboro, NC) is among the league's top middle blockers, and Marley Parker (Sr./Langley, British Columbia) and Elisa Ray (Sr./Nashville, TN) are solid utility players. Serita Wilson enters her second season as head coach of the Lady Falcons, who qualified for the CIAA Tournament last season.
After the CIAA Roundup I, the Lady Falcons visit Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. Their home match opener is Monday, Sept. 25, against Winston-Salem State University at 6 p.m.
