Lady Falcons Seeking First Southern Division Victory This Season

SAU Volleyball Hosts Winston-Salem State In Home Opener Monday, Sept. 25

RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept. 24) – The Saint Augustine's University volleyball team hosts Winston-Salem State University in its home opener on Monday, Sept. 25, at Emery Gymnasium. Admission is free to the Southern Division matchup, which starts at 6 p.m.

The Lady Falcons (0-1 Southern Division, 1-3 CIAA, 1-3 overall) are aiming for their first division win in front of the home fans. They are sparked by NCAA Division II kills leader Shakera Hall (Jr./Bridgetown, Barbados) and CIAA assists leader Taylor Irving (Fr./Litchfield, AZ). Hall averages 7.38 kills per set and Irving averages 8.62 assists per set.


The Rams (1-0 Southern Division, 4-0 CIAA, 7-3 overall) are one of three teams who won their division opener last week. Mia Herrod ranks second in the conference in kills per set (2.92) and Brycelin Spidel leads the CIAA in blocks per set (1.15).

Statistically, both teams rank high offensively in the league. The Lady Falcons are second and the Rams are third in kills per set, and the Rams are second and the Lady Falcons are fourth in hitting percentage.

After the Winston-Salem State match, the Lady Falcons will venture to Petersburg, Va., this weekend for the CIAA Roundup II. The dates of the event are Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
