Last Year's All-CIAA Rookie Pick Mechelle Moss Is One Of The Top Returnees For The Lady Falcons

SAU Volleyball Begins Season At VSU Tournament This Weekend (Aug. 30-Sept. 1)

RALEIGH, N.C. (Aug. 30) – The Saint Augustine's University volleyball team opens the 2018 season at the VSU Tournament this weekend.

The Lady Falcons play four matches in two days at the Multipurpose Center on the Virginia State University campus in Ettrick, Va. On Friday, Aug. 31, they face the University of Mount Olive at 2 p.m. and Richard Bland College at 4 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 1, the Lady Falcons take on Virginia State University at 10 a.m. and Alderson Broaddus University at 12 p.m.

Five student-athletes return for the Lady Falcons this season. They are utility player Chandra Mackey (So./Nassau, Bahamas), setter/outside hitter Mechelle Moss (So./Nassau, Bahamas), defensive specialist/setter Zoey Isom (Sr./Phoenix, AZ), outside hitter/right side hitter Jordan Rozier (So./Raeford, NC) and middle blocker/right side hitter Alyssa Smith (So./Orangeburg, SC). Middle blocker Brittany Jamison (Jr./Charleston, SC) sat out last season but is back for the Lady Falcons.

Moss was an All-CIAA Rookie selection as a freshman, ranking second on the team in kills per set (1.94) a year ago. Isom was the CIAA Rookie of the Year as a freshman in 2015.

The Lady Falcons added five newcomers this season. They are libero/defensive specialist Janina Meyers (Fr./Christ Church, Barbados), outside hitter Deandra Small (Fr./St. Philip, Barbados), middle hitter Tia Jones (Fr./Bridgetown, Barbados), outside hitter Tatyana Hall (Fr./Greensboro, NC) and defensive specialist Imara Mullins (Fr./Lakewood, CA).

Serita Wilson enters her third season as head coach. The former volleyball standout is a graduate of Saint Augustine's University as well as assistant coach Felicia Harris.

The home opener for the Lady Falcons is Thursday, Sept. 13, against Johnson C. Smith University at Emery Gymnasium. First serve is 6 p.m.
