SAU Volleyball Looks To Extend Win Streak At CIAA Round-Up I This Weekend (Oct. 2-3)

RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 1) – Saint Augustine's University (SAU) looks to continue its winning ways this weekend at the CIAA Volleyball Round-Up I (Oct. 2-3) in Winston-Salem, N.C.
 
The Lady Falcons (2-0 CIAA Southern Division, 2-5 overall) enter the first of two conference roundups on a two-match winning streak after breaking a 34-match losing skid. The win streak includes a three-set home victory over Johnson C. Smith last week and a four-set road win Monday over Winston-Salem State, both CIAA Southern Division foes.
 
SAU, in a three-way tie for first in the Southern Division, returns to Winston-Salem, N.C., for three matches against Northern Division teams. Action starts for the Lady Falcons on Saturday against Lincoln (Pa.) at 11 a.m. and Virginia State at 3 p.m. On Sunday, SAU takes on Elizabeth City State in an 11 a.m. matchup.
 
Lincoln (Pa.) is winless in seven matches. Virginia State and Elizabeth City State are both tied with Shaw for first in the Northern Division. Virginia State (2-0 Northern Division, 4-6 overall) has won its last two matches and Elizabeth City State (2-0 Northern Division, 11-2) is unbeaten in its last eight matches.
 
The trio of Madison Jones (Fr./Durham, NC), Tia Jones (Sr./Bridgetown, Barbados) and Janina Mayers (Sr./Christ Church, Barbados) keyed the Lady Falcons in their two victories.

Madison Jones ranks third in conference matches in points per set (4.17), fourth in kills per set (3.00) and ninth in blocks per set (0.83). Tia Jones is the CIAA co-leader in blocks per set (1.67) in conference matches and Mayers ranks sixth in the conference in digs per set (3.57) after two CIAA matches.
 
After the CIAA Round-Up I, the Lady Falcons return home to Emery Gymnasium for a Southern Division match against Livingstone on Oct. 7. The match begins at 6 p.m.
