SAU Football Visits WSSU In Third Straight Away Game

RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 15) – Saint Augustine's University (SAU) hits the road for third consecutive Saturday as the Falcons take on Winston-Salem State in a CIAA football game at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. Kickoff is 1:30 p.m.

The Southern Division contest can be seen on the CIAA Sports Network (theciaasn.com), wssurams.com and saintaugfalcons.com.

The youthful Falcons, with 59 freshmen on the roster, are improving each week. Several freshmen are ranked among the CIAA top 10 leaders in their respective categories.

Linebacker Lee Sales (Fr./Winston-Salem, NC) is tied for fifth in the conference in tackles per game (7.8) and tied for sixth in fumbles recovered (0.25). Cornerback Cornelius Booker (Fr./Kannapolis, NC) ranks second in passes defended per game (1.50).

Wide receiver Deandre Proctor (Fr./Elizabeth City, NC) ranks seventh in receiving yards per game (61.7), first in longest catch (92) and fifth in receiving yards per catch (20.6). Fellow wideout Keasean Williams (Fr./Clinton, NC)., coming off a 5-catch, 112-yard, one-touchdown performance vs. Livingstone last Saturday, ranks fourth in receiving yards per catch (23.8).

Collin Smith (Fr./Winston-Salem, NC) and Anthony Archie (R-Fr./Cary, NC) rank second (21.6) and fifth (18.3), respectively, in yards per kick return for the Falcons (0-3 CIAA, 0-4 overall).

Upperclassmen Demetrius Johnson (Sr./Baltimore, MD) and Joseph Harris (Jr./Jacksonville, FL) are also ranked among the conference leaders. Johnson, a defensive end, is eighth in tackles per game (7.7) and Harris, a linebacker, is tied for sixth in fumbles recovered (0.25).

As a team, the Falcons are executing in all three phases – offense, defense, and special teams. SAU has the fewest penalties (20) and the fewest penalty yards per game (37.0) in the CIAA.

Saturday will be a homecoming for several Winston-Salem natives including Sales, Smith, linebacker Elijah Thomas (R-Fr.) and linebacker Robert Scott (R-Fr.).

Quarterback Cameron Lewis leads the Rams (1-2 CIAA, 1-4 overall). He ranks fifth in the conference in total offensive yards per game (163.8), seventh in passing yards per game (123.8) and eighth in rushing yards per game (40.0).
