SAU Volleyball Heads To CIAA Round-Up 2 This Weekend

RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 15) – Saint Augustine's University (SAU) will travel to Ettrick, Va., near Petersburg for the CIAA Volleyball Round-Up 2 this weekend.

The Lady Falcons will play three matches at the VSU Multipurpose Center against Northern Division opponents, including crosstown rival and division leader Shaw. The match will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m.

On Sunday, Oct. 17, the Lady Falcons face Bowie State at 11 a.m. and Virginia Union at 3 p.m.

This is the second meeting between SAU and Shaw this season. They played each other in the season-opening SAU Quad Invitational, hosted by the Lady Falcons, in early September with the Lady Bears winning in three sets.

The contest was a non-conference match, however. This time it counts in the CIAA standings. SAU (4-3 CIAA, 6-8 overall) is tied for second in the Southern Division at 3-1 and Shaw (7-0 CIAA, 8-4 overall) leads the Northern Division at 4-0.

Middle hitter/blocker Madison Jones (Fr./Durham, NC), outside hitter Tionna Graham (Jr./Portmore, Jamaica) and libero/defensive specialist Janina Mayers (Sr./Christ Church, Barbados) are among the SAU standouts. Outside hitter Mallory Brown and setter Breelyn Clark pace Shaw.

Outside hitter Lydia Leiner leads Bowie State (0-7 CIAA, 1-13 overall). Amilex Lopez-Ayala, who is the team's top scorer, and libero Maysun Creery spark Virginia Union (2-5 CIAA, 3-7 overall).
