SAU Volleyball Hosts Winston-Salem State In CIAA Southern Division Matchup Thursday

RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 20) – After six straight road matches, Saint Augustine's University (SAU) returns home to face Winston-Salem State on Thursday in a CIAA Southern Division matchup at Emery Gymnasium. The match begins at 6 p.m.

Admission is free, but masks and temperature checks are required, per COVID-19 protocol by the SAU Department of Athletics. A hand sanitizer station will be inside the gymnasium.

Thursday's match pits two teams who squared off Sept. 27 in Winston-Salem, N.C., with the Lady Falcons winning 3-1. That victory solidified SAU as a division contender after going winless in 2019.

Currently, SAU is tied for second place in the Southern Division at 3-1, one game out of first place. The Rams are fourth in the division at 2-2.

The match features the two biggest hitters in the CIAA. Raven Gray, a WSSU freshman, leads the conference with 3.40 kills per set and 3.93 points per set. Madison Jones (Fr./Durham, NC) of SAU is second with 3.00 kills per set and 3.53 points per set.

Jones also ranks sixth in hitting percentage (.257). Tionna Graham (Jr./Portmore, Jamaica) of SAU is fourth in kills per set (2.88) and tied for fifth in points per set (3.35).

Janina Mayers (Sr./Christ Church, Barbados) of the Lady Falcons is sixth in digs per set (3.78). Maegan Williams (Fr./Durham, NC) and Sydney Moore (So./West Bloomfield, MI) rank second (0.61) and tied for eighth (0.47), respectively, in service aces per set.

The Lady Falcons last played at home Oct. 7, defeating Livingstone 3-1.
