SAU Football Hosts Fayetteville State On Saturday

RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 22) – After three straight away games, Saint Augustine's University (SAU) hosts Fayetteville State in a CIAA football game on Saturday, Oct. 23, at the George Williams Athletic Complex. Kickoff is 1 p.m.

The contest is designated as The Pink Game to raise awareness about breast cancer. It will also be Student-Life Day.

Go to saintaugfalcons.com for live video, live stats, and ticket information. The CIAA Sports Network (theciaasn.com) will also show the contest.

The last time SAU played at home was Homecoming Day (Sept. 25) against Chowan. The Falcons, featuring 59 freshmen on the roster, have improved immensely each week on the road since that contest.

Several players have stood out as the team prepares for the final three weeks of the season.

Offensively, the big-play duo of Deandre Proctor (Fr./Elizabeth City, NC) and Keasean Williams (Fr./Clinton, NC) is ranked among the top 10 pass catchers in the CIAA. Proctor is sixth in the conference in receiving yards per game (59.6) and Williams is ninth (53.8).

Proctor is tied for second (19.9) and Williams ranks fourth (19.5) in yards per catch, and Proctor has the longest reception (92 yards) in the CIAA this season.

Defensively, linebackers Lee Sales (Fr./Winston-Salem, NC) and Joseph Harris (Jr./Jacksonville, FL) are among the CIAA leaders in tackles. Sales ranks seventh (7.2) and Harris is tied for eighth (7.0) in tackles per contest.

First-Year Head Coach David Bowser and his Falcons will face a team he is very familiar with.

Before arriving at SAU, Bowser was on the Fayetteville State football coaching staff for 20 years as an assistant coach, defensive coordinator, and associate head coach. He helped the Broncos win three CIAA titles and make seven CIAA Title Game appearances.

Bowser was on the FSU staff under current Head Coach Richard Hayes Jr. during the Broncos' run of three consecutive Southern Division crowns and three straight CIAA championship appearances from 2017 to 2019.

The Broncos currently lead the Southern Division standings. Quarterback Khari Lane is the CIAA leader in passing efficiency (168.9).

After Saturday, the Falcons visit Johnson C. Smith on Oct. 30. Aspire TV will televise the contest, which starts at 1 p.m. in Charlotte, N.C.
