SAU Football Hosts Crosstown Rival Shaw In Raleigh Classic Saturday

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 5) – Crosstown rivals Saint Augustine's University and Shaw University will face off Saturday in the Raleigh Classic football game at the George Williams Athletic Complex starting at 1 p.m.

The contest is also designated as Senior Day and Military Appreciation Day. Football players Dimitrius Fitzgerald (Nashville, TN), D'Ontre Gilliard (Holly Hill, SC), Aakiel Greer (Kosciusko, MS), Joseph Harris (Jacksonville, FL) and Demetrius Johnson (Baltimore, MD) will be honored before the game.

CIAA Basketball Hall of Famer Anthony Boggan, a Saint Augustine's alumnus, will be the Falcons' honorary captain for the coin toss. Boggan earned numerous CIAA and All-America accolades during his playing days including CIAA Player of the Year in 1981. He also is a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

The youthful Falcons, with 57 freshmen on the roster, are led offensively by freshmen Deandre Proctor (Elizabeth City, NC), Keasean Williams (Clinton, NC) and Christopher Perkins (Spring Lake, NC). The trio has accounted for most of the Falcons' touchdowns this year.

Proctor and Williams rank fourth (17.9) and fifth (16.5), respectively, in the CIAA in yards per catch. Proctor has also thrown a touchdown pass and rushed for a score. The two-time CIAA Rookie of the Week winner has amassed 617 offensive yards as a quarterback and wide receiver this season.

On defense, linebackers Harris and Lee Sales (Fr./Winston-Salem, NC) are ranked among the CIAA's top tacklers. Harris is tied for fifth (7.3) and Sales is ninth (7.1) in tackles per game. Harris was named CIAA Linebacker of the Week for accumulating 13 tackles against Johnson C. Smith last Saturday.

Shaw linebacker Devon Hunt leads the CIAA in tackles per game (8.4) and Sidney Gibbs is the conference's leading rusher (810 yards).
