Davis, Coach Bowser of SAU Among Nominees For AFCA Good Works Team

RALEIGH, N.C. (July 20) - Student-Athlete Marcus Davis (Grad./Raleigh, NC) and Head Coach David Bowser of Saint Augustine's University (SAU) were selected nominees for the 2022 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team on Wednesday.

The Good Works Team, established in 1992 by the College Football Association, celebrates football student-athletes and head coaches for their exemplary community service, academic dedication and impact on and off the field. The 22-member team and one honorary coach will be announced in September 2022 by a voting panel of journalists and former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team members. The team will consist of 11 players from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II and III and the NAIA.

After the team is announced, fans can vote for a captain on the Good Works Team official page at espn.com.

Davis, a defensive lineman, is one of 38 nominees in the Football Championship Subdivision, NCAA DII, DIII and NAIA category. Bowser is one of seven nominees in the head coaching category, which includes Division I coaches Jimbo Fisher of Texas A&M, Mark Stoops of Kentucky, Blake Anderson of Utah State and Jay Norvell of Colorado State. Bowser is one of two Division II head coaches on the list.

The current president of SAU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Davis has been involved in several community projects. He was a volunteer at several events including the N.C. March of Dimes 5K Walk, the Southern Durham High School COVID Vaccination Event and the Rise To Win - Champions of Change Event, which focused on youth programs. A 2022 graduate, Davis is the Falcons' third-leading returning tackler. Last season, he tallied 26 tackles including four tackles for loss and three sacks. He scooped up a fumble and scored on an 18-yard touchdown in a Raleigh Classic victory over Shaw.

Named a rising star on Football Scoop's 2022 Minority Watch Coaching List, Bowser was awarded a grant to attend the 2022 NACDA & Affiliates Convention in June. The SAU coach was selected a grant recipient by CIAA Commissioner Jacqie McWilliams. As SAU's athletic director, Bowser once headed a group of school athletic administrators that partnered with the CIAA conference and Academy Sports + Outdoors to give SoyMilk & Hope, a Raleigh, N.C., non-profit organization, $1,000 worth of donated items. As head football coach, Bowser directed the Falcons to a 21-17 win over Shaw to capture the Raleigh Classic Trophy.
